PITTSBURGH -- Even after a 50-yard sprint through the heart of the Indianapolis Colts' defense, Jaylen Warren exploded for a final burst of energy as he crossed the goal line for the second time Sunday afternoon.
Warren high-stepped and kicked his feet out in front of him, skip-hopping into the end zone with safety A.J. Haulcy still trailing 5 yards behind him.
Not only was it a historic moment as Warren became the first player since Herschel Walker in 1986 to record a 50-yard touchdown run and an 80-yard touchdown reception in the same game, but the score and ensuing celebration was also a microcosm of the tough, yet fun-loving demeanor that has led to Warren's long-awaited coming out party over the past three weeks.
"He's just such a slippery player," quarterback Aaron Rodgers said after the Steelers' 34-22 win. "First guy rarely brings him down. He's good inside the tackles, good outside of tackles, always moving forward, always spinning, slipping out of plays, finishing runs.
"He's one of the most liked players on the team, and guys want to block for him on the offensive line, and the tight ends and the receivers and just really enjoy his energy from start to finish every day of the week and enjoy what he does for us."
