Former England head coach Sir Gareth Southgate has said that he doesn't see a scenario where he manages a Premier League club again.
The ex-Middlesbrough boss has been out of management since the summer of 2024 -- when he led England to another Euros final but resigned after they lost 2-1 to Spain.
Southgate said that he doesn't "see a scenario where I do that" when asked if he would return to Premier League management, in an interview on Amol Rajan's podcast.
"Towards the end of my time with England, I stopped enjoying the wins that keep you going. By the end, I didn't enjoy the wins for any longer than a couple of minutes," he said.
"I've hardly watched football. I went to the Champions League final the year after I left England, 2025. I went to the FA Cup final to see my team -- Crystal Palace -- win their first trophy. I've not been to a football ground since.
"My desire to be involved in football has changed. I've loved the last 18 months of my life. I've had 37 years where my sense of self depending on 'Did I win? Did I win or lose on Saturday?'

I've been curious about what's been going on with young people, I've met politicians, I've met people in the media industry, I've travelled around the world learning things...I've just enjoyed playing a different film in my life."
Recently, Southgate has been heavily involved in the push to understand the mental health struggles that young men and boys face and embarked on a BBC documentary that attempted to encourage them to open up and talk about complex feelings.
"The beauty of England is I was coaching and there was a purpose to it [...] If you go to a club, there's not that same sense of purpose. Do these owners have the values that I have? Can we win? I'm not interested in survival and just being a manager because it's a good salary. That doesn't excite me.
"I'd rather make a bigger difference in my life in other areas than be at one training ground [...] I've given every ounce I had to football and I just fancy a different period of my life."

Southgate and Rajan also discussed the Manchester City situation. Last month, an independent panel found the club guilty of breaching the Premier League's financial rules for a number of years.
