EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants wide receiver Braxton Berrios will need surgery on his injured foot and will miss the remainder of the season, he announced Tuesday on Instagram.
Berrios revealed the news on his 31st birthday and said, "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't miserable right now." This is his third consecutive season that has ended early because of injury.
Berrios was the Giants' primary kickoff and punt returner, in addition to being the fourth wide receiver. He had yet to catch a pass in 23 offensive snaps and was averaging 2.5 yards per punt return.
Charlie Jones, who along with Berrios was signed to the active roster last week, will step into the return role. Jones had two punt returns for 29 yards and averaged 23 yards per kickoff return Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals after Berrios was injured returning a punt late in the first half.
