DETROIT -- With starting wide receiver Adonai Mitchell listed as questionable with a finger injury, the New York Jets added two receivers Saturday to the active roster for Sunday against the Detroit Lions.
Veteran Sterling Shepard was elevated from the practice squad and is expected to make his Jets debut. First-year player Jamaal Pritchett, signed from the practice squad, is available to make his NFL debut.
The Jets already have three receivers on injured reserve, including first-round pick Omar Cooper Jr. (ankle). Mitchell, the most targeted player on the team (15), showed up on the injury report Thursday after his finger got caught in a teammate's jersey at practice.
Mitchell practiced Friday with a heavy wrap on his right hand. His index and middle fingers appeared to be splinted. Coach Aaron Glenn wouldn't disclose the nature of the injury, except to say, "I don't think it's broke."
Mitchell has emerged as a key member of the passing attack. He's their top vertical threat, with nine receptions for 123 yards -- second to Garrett Wilson in both categories.
If Mitchell can't play or is limited against the Lions (1-1), Isaiah Williams and Shepard likely would be the second and third receivers.
Sterling, 33, arrived only two weeks ago on the practice squad. The 10-year veteran caught 39 passes for 371 yards and one touchdown last season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Their other is undrafted rookie Malik McClain, who has no game experience. Pritchett returns kicks and could replace Kene Nwangwu (back), who was ruled out on Saturday.
The Jets also will be without tight end Mason Taylor (thumb).
