Everton fans threatened to "riot" if the club cash in on teenage winger Harrison Armstrong.
England under-19 international Armstrong was reportedly the subject of a £40million offer from Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest ahead of Saturday afternoon's game away to Bournemouth.
The 19-year-old academy graduate started for the Toffees at the Vitality Stadium to make his 24th appearance for the club.
Travelling supporters made their feelings clear on the situation, repeatedly chanting: "Don't sell Armstrong, Harrison Armstrong, I just don't think you understand. If you sell Armstrong, Harrison Armstrong, you're going to have a riot on your hands."
Armstrong spent the first half of last term on loan to Preston before being recalled in January. He previously had a temporary spell with Derby.
Everton have a history of selling their top homegrown talent.
Wayne Rooney moved to Manchester United in 2004 before Ross Barkley joined Chelsea in 2018 and and Anthony Gordon left for Newcastle in 2023.
Going further back, defender Michael Ball departed for Rangers in 2001, while striker Francis Jeffers was sold to Arsenal in the same year.
Head coach David Moyes has said it will be a "club decision" whether Armstrong is sold.
Asked if the bid for Armstrong should be accepted, Moyes said: "It's not really a question for just now. It will be a club decision.
"I think you always have to consider supporters; supporters aren't always wrong.
"But then there's also times where I've had people at clubs who are really powerful and make difficult decisions.
"I'd bring into that Bryan Gray, who was at Preston North End, and Sir Philip Carter, who was at Everton when I first came in. Not always decisions are popular, and sometimes they have to do it for different reasons.
"Managers have to make decisions on players sometimes and they feels like huge decisions. But there's sometimes bigger decisions to be made and the club will, I'm sure, make what they think is the right one.
"If I'd say something to them [the fans], I'd say their manager's an Evertonian."
