The Golden State Warriors are signing free agent guard Brandon Williams to a one-year, $2.6 million minimum contract, agents Derek Lafayette and Curtis Lawrence told ESPN's Shams Charania on Tuesday.
Williams is the team's first outside acquisition in what has been an otherwise stable offseason, providing needed perimeter bench scoring and speed for a reserve unit that often lacked it last season.
Williams averaged 13.0 points in 22.2 minutes per game for the Dallas Mavericks last season and has averaged 10.7 points in 19.3 minutes in 140 career games, including 34 starts spread over four seasons. He started his career with the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Williams signing fills the 14th slot on the Warriors' roster. General manager Mike Dunleavy said the Warriors intend to fill their 15th and final roster spot this summer after leaving it vacant in previous seasons for financial purposes.
They're doing so, in part, because starting wings Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody will miss the opening months while rehabbing knee injuries.
