Three-time Pro Bowl cornerback Devon Witherspoon and the Seattle Seahawks have reached an agreement on a four-year, $132 million extension, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday.
The contract includes more than $101 million in guaranteed money, sources said, and makes Witherspoon the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.
The deal took longer than expected to be completed given that the Seahawks turned their attention to extending Witherspoon right after making Jaxon Smith-Njigba the NFL's highest-paid wide receiver in March. One possible hang-up was that New England Patriots star cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who shares the same agent as Witherspoon, is also up for a top-of-the-market extension.
But Witherspoon's deal is now done on the day the Seahawks open their preseason against the Dallas Cowboys.
